Big or Small, You Make the Call
If there's a regional airport near to you, then take it if at all possible. You can avoid long security check lines and many of the hassles of a large airport. Of course, there has to be a commuter flight to get you to the airport you want to leave from. Sometimes this short leg to a major airport may cost a little more, but it's often worth it. On occasion, the schedule isn't right and it won't work out. Once in the big airport, you can grab a snack and stretch your legs. A large airport can have many amenities, such as shops, bookstores, candy stores and a variety of restaurants. Most now have free high speed wireless internet connections as well. Some airports even have hotels right there. This is a great option if your flight will be taking a while and you want to get to the airport the night before. Be aware that the gate you land at and the gate you will be departing from, may be at opposite ends of a large airport. Check overhead monitors in case your departure gate changes. There are small courtesy shuttles that can take you to your gate. Just flag one down if you need to.
