Lanzarote Holidays and Breaks
Lanzarote may be a four hour flight from the UK but it can still be enjoyed as a long weekend destination. As well as for more conventional seven and fourteen day holidays. And during the winter months especially this Canary Island is the closest winter sun hotspot for British tourists.
Indeed visitors from the UK have been flocking to the island ever since holidays in Lanzarote first went on sale during the early 1970's. And much like other Spanish destinations have developed something of an ongoing love affair. With many guests returning year after year.
One of the reasons for this perennial popularity is the quality of accommodation. There are thousands of luxurious villas in Lanzarote for rent, along with hundreds of hotels and apartment complexes too. And to the surprise of many first time visitors the prices are usually much cheaper than for other holiday destinations in both Spain and across Europe.
There´s a lot to see on Lanzarote so car hire is highly recommended, unless of course you like standing idly at bus stops waiting in vain whilst on your holidays! Fortunately car rental in Lanzarote is cheap and there are plenty of companies competing for the custom of tourists. One of the factors which helps to keep prices down. Petrol is also much cheaper than in the UK too.
Getting around isn’t too tough either. There is one big central motorway the LZ1 which runs through the heart of the island. Uniting the three main holiday resorts. And this and all other roads are pretty well signposted – so it’s quite difficult to get lost.
Summer 2010 is an ideal time to visit if you are still planning a late break as holidays in Lanzarote are available at around 13% less than this time last year. Thanks to the fact that most of the major tour operators and travel companies have a lot of over capacity on their books.
The largest and arguably the best resort on the island is called Puerto del Carmen. Where tourists will find great beaches and loads to do – all just ten minutes transfer time from the airport. Playa Blanca is the second most popular destination but requires a much longer transfer time of forty minutes. As it is located at the southern end of the island well away from the airport.
