Get Down In Rio
Wherever you are going, there's bound to be a festival or two. Many people celebrate different events, both historic and current, with a festival or exhibition. These are a great way for the traveler to take in some local culture and meet people who will always be interesting. You can check well beforehand in the area you'll be vacationing at, to see what local things will be "on" for that time period. It's also possible to plan your holiday around festivals that will be of particular interest to you. If you are into handicrafts then there are many local weekly markets that can feature handmade crafts. If you love to party, then Carnivale in Rio or Mardi Gras in New Orleans could be the answer. Of course, if you do love to party, you'll find one no matter where you go! There's Octoberfest in Germany for beer lovers and many festivals that showcase plays and music, if you love that. For Shakespeare alone, there are numerous celebrations around the world for the Bard's work. The same can be said for Mozart, or Beethoven, and many, many other geniuses.
